Hey guys, it's been a while and a lot has happened since last time!! To bring you up to speed I am spending 2011 back down under racing for Paul Feeny Group Husqvarna. Its awesome being back in Australia living in our own house and hanging out with my old mates.
The season so far has been quite slow in comparison to what I was used to the last few years in America. We went from racing 3 weekends out of 4 every month to having raced just 2 weekends this season!!! Working with PFG has been great, they are a real professional outfit and it shows when we turn up at the races.
The first two rounds of the AORC didn’t go to plan for us, despite the fact I was sitting in podium position for the first 2hrs of the opening cross country. Some mechanical dramas ended that charge but I made up for it the following day in the sprint but we still came out of the weekend behind in points and with some work to do. Having just raced the third and fourth round this past weekend in Victoria, things are looking up. We came away with a second in the GNCC after spending the first half of the race trying to shake some arm pump before finally getting moving after the pit and trying to chase down Toby Price ... who won the race. In Sunday’s sprint I struggled to find the pace of the front runners and after a few falls I managed to come away with a third in the E2 class behind Toby and Chris Hollis. We are still behind in points but closer than we where and with 6 rounds to go anything is possible!!
Also, about two weeks ago I returned from a month long trip to the USA where the plan was to race 2 GNCC’s and attend my brothers wedding. Ben's wedding went off without any drama but the races where a different story due to some gnarly weather. Before I landed in LA the first GNCC had been cancelled at Loretta Lynn’s ranch due to a tornado causing severe flooding. This meant I didn’t get the bike I was supposed to, so I spent the next 2 weeks without a bike to ride or train on ... pissed off.
Two weeks later I drove to the next GNCC in Indiana, which was 11-hours away. I picked the bike up Saturday lunch time and spent 6 hours getting it ready for Sunday’s race. Turned up Sunday morning to pouring rain and another cancelled race so we spent 3 more hours taking parts back off the Husky. I was really over it by that stage! After 3 weeks in the US and spending a shit tonne of cabbage, I didn’t get to race jack!
So now I am back in Aus and I'm bad. There are a lot more races to attend and I am looking forward to getting right into it ;-) I am also looking to purchase a trials bike this week (if the mrs lets me) and get in to some serious cross training.
Til next time ... peace out MOFO’s
