CDR Rockstar Yamaha duo of Jay Marmont and Josh Coppins produced another first class performance at round seven of the 2011 Rockstar MX Nationals that saw them both stand on the podium at the end of racing.

It was a carbon copy display of the previous round with Marmont hitting the winners circle for the second round in a row and Coppins taking third spot. The late season charge by the duo has seen the points race tighten up considerably in the Pro Open class with the top four riders now separated by 32 points.

Prior to the Albury round, Marmont promised to lay it on the line and fight to keep his number one plate for the fourth season in a row. He lived up to that promise with four well constructed races to take the round win with 2-3-7-1 finishes and continue on his late season win streak.

The last four events Marmont has contested, including two rounds of the MX Nationals and high profile events in WA and QLD, have seen the 28 year old Yamaha racer take the win and momentum has really swung his way. With two rounds remaining, Marmont is right in the thick of this championship and ready to take up the fight at Moree and Coolum in the coming weeks.

“Overall I am happy with the way the day turned out although it wasn’t looking too good in moto three. Josh and I are lying on the ground and I am thinking this isn’t the way it’s supposed to be,” Marmont laughs off.

“But fortunately I was able to salvage that race reasonably well and then have a good one in the final race to win the day. It’s been a rewarding month for the entire team as every time we hit the track, success has come and that is a credit to everyone at CDR Rockstar Yamaha,” Marmont closes.

Josh Coppins claimed another third overall for the round and as a result as moved to second in the championship points and within 14 of the championship leader. Coppins continues to display the characteristics that took him to number two in the world and as each race wears on, Coppins moves in for the kill.

His race results of 4-1-6-2 round off a solid weekend for the Kiwi, only a crash with team mate Marmont in moto three the only hiccup.

“If you look at the big picture, today was important for myself and the team. I clawed back some more points in the championship, made progress with the way the bike performs and I think we are hitting good form as the championship goes down to the wire,” Coppins explains.

“With two rounds to go, I can’t afford to let up and because the points are so close any mistakes are costly. So, the focus remains to win the races that I can and maintain my form and fitness right to the end.”

The 1-3 finish of his riders also pleased team manager Craig Dack and he is impressed with the fighting qualities of his riders.

“After the really wet rounds, we had both riders down on points and our backs against the wall. But, some mid season testing and a renewal of our goals as a team and as riders, the guys have really put in on the track and are reaping the rewards,” Dack said.

“But we can’t rest now and we have to keep working hard if we are to succeed. But Jay and Josh have what it takes to win and the last couple of rounds are an example of what they can do,” he finishes.

The CDR Rockstar Yamaha Team now move their attention to round eight at Moree where they will take up the fight in pursuit of the 2011 Pro Open National Motocross championship.
